PLAYER RESPONSIBILITIES
If in Doubt, Ask Your Friendly TO:
Facebook Messenger tends to be a reliable place to get hold of us. Huw Evans and James Brett are our current TO group. If you would like to be added to the TO group to help out or the growing Melbourne Legion Players group, just ask!
Miniatures, Cards & Painting:
Bring whatever miniatures and cards you want! Proxies are allowed and conversions are encouraged, provided they clearly represent whatever unit they are on the table. Models must be constructed, but do not need to be painted. However, players are strongly encouraged to paint their miniatures. If they’re not finished, try to get them done before the next event!
Dice, Tokens & Tools:
People must use official Star Wars Legion dice & measuring tools. Identical, custom tools will likely be allowed, but check with your TO first, who may ask you to request permission from opponents as well. Have the standard alternatives at hand in these instances. Custom tokens that unambiguously represent the official tokens are always allowed.
Time Keeping:
Every round will be timed with a visible clock, running for 2hrs and 50minutes. This time includes set up. There is no additional 15 minutes after time elapses and no randomly rolled time. It is dice down once 2hrs and 50minutes has elapsed, so that everyone gets to go home on time.
We recognise that some players prefer to use chess clocks, either by preference or in order to practice for a Legion GT. As such, chess clocks are available if both players agree they want to use them. There is no obligation to do so.
If you choose to use a chess clock: Each player is assigned 1hr and 20mins, plus there is a neutral 10 minutes of set up time, for a total of 2hr 50minute rounds. When there is 2hrs and 40minutes remaining in the round (if they haven’t already), players will be asked to start their clock, even if they haven’t finished setting up yet.
If one player runs out of time, they are no longer allowed to roll any offensive dice, move any miniatures, give out any orders or play any command cards, apart from Standing Orders. In other words, a player who has run out of time, is not allowed to take any voluntary action they would normally take during their turn, while their opponent uses whatever time they have left to complete the game. Note that units still take their involuntary rally step before passing the activation. If both players run out of time, the game is over.
Registration & Army Lists:
Players must register for the event beforehand on LongShanks and must upload their roster on LongShanks, before their entry is considered locked in for the event. You should find a link on the event page. The cutoff for roster submission is midnight the day before the event. The preferred roster format is a Json out of one of the online army builders, such as TableTop Admiral. It should be easy to copy the list from said application into LongShanks, but if you have any trouble, ask your TO.
Sportsmanship:
All players are expected to act in a civil, polite and amicable manner, on and off the table. If players are acting in a disrespectful manner, they will be asked to leave. We know this is extremely unlikely to happen and we pride ourselves on the sportsmanship and good humour of our community. We love playing Legion with our mates and we are especially kind and helpful toward new players. We believe this extends to rules such as “Missed Opportunities” and “Margin of Error” in the AMG Galactic Conquest Event rules, without the need to spell it out. In this spirit, we always reward a prize for the player-voted best sport at the event!
Conceding:
Generally speaking we think it’s worth playing out your games and getting as many points as you can, even if you’re a long way behind. With that said, it is your right to concede the game if you see no way back and you’re not having fun. We’re here to have fun after all! If there is only a short time left in the round, instead of conceding, consider talking through what would have happened with your opponent, to land on an appropriate score for the game, which you both agree to. In the event of a concession, the opponent gets a win and counts as having scored 12VP (victory points) and 800AP (attrition points), unless either is already higher at the point of the concession.
Swiss Pairings:
Players will be paired randomly for their first round and paired as per standard "Swiss" pairing rules for the remainder of the event. If both players let the TO know before they create the pairings for round one, they can “grudge” a specific opponent to a match. There are no top cuts and tournament entrants are expected to finish out all their rounds, except in the case of illness or emergency.
Tie Breakers:
Event placing will be determined by total Tournament Points (TP) (W=3, L=0, D=1). In the case of a tie, placement will be worked out using tiebreakers in the following order
1) Victory Points Scored (VPS)
2) Strength of Schedule (SOS - average opponent’s TP)
3) Total Attrition Points Scored (APS)
4) Random
Let’s build a fun and inclusive Legion community together. Looking forward to seeing you at The Gaming Arena for a game!
